The Week Before Your Nashville Move: What to Do Before Movers Arrive

A home that’s ready to go means we spend our time moving your belongings, not working around obstacles. Here’s what makes the biggest difference. 

Declutter Before We Get There 

We’ll move whatever you put in front of us, but do you really want to pay us to move a box of stuff you were going to donate anyway? The week before your move is the time to make those calls.  

Go room by room, decide what’s actually coming with you, and get rid of the rest.  

Pack an Essentials Bag and Keep It with You 

Pack everything you’ll need for the first 24 hours at your new place, including medications, chargers, a change of clothes, toiletries, and any important documents. Moving day is long, and unpacking every box to find your toothbrush at the end of it is nobody’s idea of a good time.

When It Comes to Labeling, Specifics Matter   

“Kitchen” tells us where the box is going. “Kitchen: pots and pans, fragile” tells us how to handle it and where to stack it. The more specific your labels, the faster we can place boxes in the right place without stopping to ask questions. Across a full house, that specificity adds up to real time saved on both ends of the move. 

Disconnect Your Appliances the Night Before 

Refrigerators need to be defrosted before the move, so the night before is a good rule of thumb. Disconnect appliances from power and water sources, secure any loose cords, and remove detachable parts that could shift in transit. We can move your appliances to your new home, but installation is a separate task to plan for on your own. 

If You’re in a Nashville Apartment, Don’t Skip This Part 

Nashville’s high-rises and apartment communities have specific rules that can throw off a move day if you haven’t planned ahead. 

• Reserve parking for the moving truck. Get this sorted early in the week, so it’s not a scramble on move morning. 

• Notify your building management. Most Nashville apartment communities, especially in Midtown, The Gulch, and downtown, require advance notice and have specific move-in and move-out guidelines worth knowing before the day arrives. 

• Secure elevator access. Freight elevator windows in high-rise buildings fill up quickly. If you haven’t reserved yours yet, that’s the first call to make.
