A post-moving checklist

Has your residential moving company finally unloaded the last box of your stuff from the moving van? Great! Whew, finally! You can really breathe a huge sigh of relief now. However, it’s important not to get ahead of yourself. While most of the work is now over, you’ll find that your relocation isn’t yet complete. Yep, let’s just say that moving is a gift that keeps on giving! But it doesn’t have to mean the end of the world, even if you’re tired. If you focus and make a good post-moving checklist, you’ll be done with this stuff in no time and all. And then you can think about all the fun stuff to do in Nashville! And that’s what we’re going to help you with – so scroll down and enjoy our tips on stuff to do after the move!

Why is a post-moving checklist important?

Okay, we know what you’re probably thinking. After all, there are a lot fewer things to do after you relocate than before, while you were planning your move. So, while having a plan and a checklist was important back when you were doing relocation chores for weeks in advance – why is this important now?
Well, you’ll find that a post-moving checklist is a must have after all. Why? Well, because of the difficulty of pre-moving and post-moving tasks basically balances itself out. Sure, you’ve got a lot more things to do in the time leading up to your relocation. But on the other hand, you’ve got a lot more time to do them. And, this perhaps being the most crucial part – you’ve got a lot more energy. Yeah, now you’re getting it. Fast forward to after you’ve relocated, and you can see what we’re talking about. There’s still stuff to do in your new home before you can settle in – but now you’re dead tired from moving day. And that’s why it’s important that you make a plan and a checklist for this in advance. That way, you’ll have to do far less thinking about your post-moving tasks, and you’ll do them almost by default.

A good timetable is necessary

Okay, now that we’ve established that a post-moving checklist is something you’ll definitely need – what next? Or, rather – where to begin? Well, the good news is, you’re not an amateur at this kind of stuff anymore. If you’ve successfully finished your business with Nashville movers, that means you’ve probably made a great moving plan already. So what matters now is remembering all the basics of a good checklist, and sticking by them.
So let’s think about it – what are the two key resources that your pre-moving plan was supposed to conserve? Yes, that’s right – your time and your money. Well, the good news is that expenses generally aren’t that high when we’re talking about post-moving chores. But on the other hand, time management is more important than ever. Why? Because you’ll be handling stuff that’s crucial for adapting to your new home. But while you’re doing that, you’ll need to handle your new job or at least your new place of work, and all kinds of other stuff. Don’t worry though – while it may seem difficult, a post-moving checklist with a good schedule will come in handy here.

Dealing with the essentials

But while we’re on the subject of post-moving chores – what exactly are those? Well, think about it; what’s the most important thing you’ll need in your new home? Chances are that you’ll want to deal with those first. If you’ve hired someone to who has professional packing among their Nashville moving services, unpacking shouldn’t be an issue.
And afterward, as a general rule, we’d recommend starting off with the utilities. Indeed, hooking those up should be at the absolute top of your moving checklist. And seeing as there are a lot of different utilities nowadays, we also recommend sorting them in order of priority. It doesn’t really take an expert to figure out what to do first here. For example, you’ll probably want to call up the power company for electricity before you call your Internet provider. Also, stuff like heat and water should be at the top of the list. Later on, you can deal with stuff like phones, or garbage removal services.

Home security is a priority

Once you’ve unpacked and finished setting up most of the important utilities, it’s time to start thinking about home security. If you’re looking for our advice on this, we’d basically say: hire a locksmith as soon as you can. If you’ve purchased a new home, we recommend changing all of the external locks. Why? Well, this may seem a bit crazy, but trust us – you can never know who’s got an old set of keys when you buy a house. Also, make sure you’ve put in alarms and other home security measures, to the extent that you feel is needed.

Other items on your post-moving checklist

Other than these main things, there are many other smaller, but equally important chores to complete. And while these may seem less important, trust us – you don’t want to forget any of it. So, here’s a reminder for some of the more important smaller stuff:

  • More keys – Once you finish with home security, make sure you get a few more sets of keys. First of all, everyone in your household will need them, especially if you’ve changed locks. And also, you’ve got other people to think about, like your babysitter or your dog walker.
  • Your new address – Don’t forget to get in touch with the post office and update your postal address. The sooner you do this, the sooner you end the possibility of any mail ending up at your old place. And remember – your postal address is important for voting as well!
  • Check everything – By now, you’ve seen how chaotic a relocation can be. That’s why we recommend doing a thorough check-up of your items while you unpack, even if you’ve handled packing your home effectively. If anything sustains damage in the process, you best learn about it right away.
